HAMILTON — The city’s health director has resigned to take another job.
City officials said Shawn Dempsey resigned effective Jan. 7 in order to take a job with Toyota.
City Manager Joshua Smith said Dempsey “left on the best of conditions.”
Smith said he was “disappointed” when Dempsey resigned, saying that he had the potential to rise to higher levels in the city’s organization.
Dempsey was hired by the city in February 2007 as a public health sanitarian, according to Nadine Hill, the city’s civil service and personnel director.
He was named acting health director on Jan. 13, 2011 and the position was made permanent on Jan. 18, 2011, according to city records.
Dempsey’s annual salary was $77,875 a year.
Kay Farrar, the public health nursing director, is serving as the interim health director.
Smith said the city charter requires the city health department to have a director or interim director. He said he has no timeline on when he will appoint a permanent director.
