Four Middletown residents have been arrested following a lengthy investigation into copper thefts across the region.

In September, detectives began investigating a group of people believed to be responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage to property in the area. The investigation culminated on Sunday with several arrests.

The group allegedly has been breaking into construction sites in Butler, Warren and Montgomery counties as well as vacant properties in the area, according to Middletown police.

They are accused of breaking into Finkelman Auditorium at Miami University Middletown, which is being remodeled, school construction sites at Edgewood High School and in Miamisburg and a recent burglary at the former Kmart building on Roosevelt Boulevard.

Those arrested are Barry Allen McDonald II, 38, 2009 Spencer Lane, on three counts of receiving stolen property, tampering with records and resisting arrest; Justin Mark Schneider, 23, 2013 Grand Ave., tampering with evidence, petty theft, and possession of drug abuse instruments; John Logan Kimberlin, 36, 3205 Illinois Ave, tampering with evidence and petty theft; and Angela S. McDonald, 39, 2009 Spencer Lane, three counts of improper confinement of a vicious dogs and for having unlicensed dogs.

Lt. Scott Reeve said detectives are working with Trenton police and Butler County Sheriff’s Office and more charges are likely.

Anyone with information about the crimes or others involved in copper thefts are asked to call Detective Steve Winters at (513) 425-7786.
