FAIRFIELD TWP. — After temporarily evacuating staff at Fairfield East Elementary early Tuesday morning, officials said they did not find anything related to a gas leak report.
Around 6:40 a.m., a gas odor was reported at the school, located at 6711 Morris Road. The building was occupied by kitchen staff, maintenance and a limited number of staff and children in the latch key program, said Assistant Fire Chief Benjamin Bultman.
Fire crews evacuated the building for about 10 minutes while inspecting. Officials determined the school safe for re-entry.
Multiple gas monitors were used to analyze the air in the school and determined that there were no flammable or explosive gases present. A Duke Energy troubleshooter was used and had the same findings.
Students had not yet arrived to the building. The scene is clear and no one was injured.
Bultman said if further investigation had been necessary, Fairfield Twp. fire and Fairfield City Schools would have engaged its contingency plans to provide further notification to the parents of students.
