FAIRFIELD — This winter has been much warmer than usual, so perhaps it’s appropriate that the duo called Ellery has decided to come out of a kind of hibernation.

The Northern Kentucky-based pair, Tasha and Justin Golden, play at the Fairfield Community Arts Center on Friday, Jan. 27. It’s their first visit to Butler County since they played Hamilton’s Fitton Center three or four years ago, Tasha Golden said. But this is also the first time they’ve been back on the road anywhere in some time.

“We’ve been doing a lot of writing. We were on the road a lot but we’ve taken extensive time off from the road, so we’ll be playing songs that we’ve never recorded yet,” she said.

Those songs tend to be in the pop vein, although Golden described their sound as “ever-evolving.” Their most recent album, “This Isn’t Over Yet,” came out in 2010, and their song “Down, Down, Down” was featured on the soundtrack of the hit film “No Strings Attached,” starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman.

The Goldens, a husband-and-wife team, went from being friends to being engaged in only four days. They got their musical name, Ellery, from a name they found in an Iowa bookstore.

“You can loosely call it pop, but it has emotional and dynamic range. It has loud louds and quiet quiets,” Golden said.

Whatever volume a song reaches, “We love when we can feel some conversation or emotional exchange with the audience. It’s not necessarily an escape, although it can be. We want (the listener) to have a moment where they can feel enveloped or feel safe,” she said.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, with the concert starting at 8 p.m. This show is part of the Wine Women and Song series, with a cabaret setting.

Tickets are $15 and $20. Call (513) 867-5348 or visit www.fairfield-city.org/cac.
