EATON, Preble County — A break-in suspect was in serious condition Friday, Oct. 23 after officials from the Preble County Sheriff’s Office say he was shot after trying to invade a home Thursday night.
The incident occurred around 9:46 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 when officials say Christopher L. Jones, 25 of Eaton, called 911 to report multiple male subjects had forcibly entered his house on the 4700 block of U.S. 35 and assaulted him. He also reported that he had shot one of the intruders. They all fled the residence after the shots were fired, according to sheriff’s office officials.
Jones was transported to Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Ind., where he was treated for lacerations to the head.
As deputies arrived on scene of the home invasion, they received reports from the Wayne County, Ind., dispatchers that they were receiving calls on a subject traveling on Interstate 70 westbound just east of the Ohio-Indiana border who had been shot. It was determined the vehicle’s occupants were connected to the home invasion. With the assistance of the Richmond police department and the Ohio Highway Patrol, the three suspects were apprehended.
The subject who was shot during the break-in, a 26-year-old male from Richmond, Ind., whose name has not been released, was transported via medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was listed in serious condition today, according to the Preble sheriff’s office.
The two other suspects, a 24-year-old and a 22-year-old both of Richmond, Ind., who have also not been identified, were questioned by deputies and are being held in the Preble County Jail pending charges.
