HAMILTON — The list of 72 applicants vying for the city’s top administrative job has been narrowed to seven.
City Council will conduct interviews during a series of closed-door executive sessions starting Friday, July 9, and Saturday, July 10.
Council members have said they want to have the city manager vacancy filled by sometime in August.
Mayor Pat Moeller said City Council would maintain “a tight timeline and keep this thing moving.”
“This decision will be one of the most important, if not the most important, decisions that we will be making as a group,” Moeller said. “I’m hoping that out of these (candidates) we can find two or three who would be a really great fit for the city.
“We have some very intense days of interviewing and researching ahead of us,” he said.
The pool of applicants included candidates from California, Texas, New Mexico, South Dakota, Rhode Island and Ohio, including five from Butler County.
According to city documents, the remaining applicants are: David Ellis, the Neighborhood and Community Building coordinator for Fairfax County, Va.; Daniel Hall, a Hamilton resident and former Miami University Hamilton dean; Gary Huff, the town manager of Fishers, Ind.; Springfield Twp. Administrator Michael Hinnenkamp; Sandusky City Manager Matt Kline; Randy Robertson, city manager of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; and, Joshua A. Smith, village administrator of Howard, Wis.
In April, Council hired consulting firm, Management Partners Inc., to facilitate the search to find a replacement for Mark Brandenburger, who submitted his resignation Feb. 18. Brandenburger, who has since been named the head of the Department of Special Utility Projects, continues to serve as interim city manager.
