WEST CHESTER TWP. — Starting Monday, June 15, construction will close a busy West road for up to four months.
Construction is under way along Beckett Road, and the three phases of a nearly $1.4-million project to ease curves and widen lanes will be noticed by motorists when the street closes.
The project, awarded to West Chester Twp.-based Sunesis Construction, will be completely funded through the Union Centre Boulevard Tax Increment Financing District, according to officials from the township and Butler County Engineer’s Office.
Plans call for widening the road from Union Centre Boulevard to Smith Road, and modifying the sharp curves near the Beckett Ridge subdivision. The road will be widened to three lanes from Union Centre north to the first curve, where it will taper to two lanes, then back to three lanes from Prairie Lake Boulevard to Smith Road, according to the county.
A turn lane also will be added for easier entrance into Beckett Park, and a 10-foot-wide pedestrian path will be built along the east side of Beckett Road to Beckett Ridge Boulevard.
Construction is expected to be wrapped up by October — weather permitting — and closures will continue until Aug. 15. Local access along the road will be maintained, officials said.
• Phase one closes Beckett Road between Prairie Lake Boulevard and Beckett Ridge Boulevard. Access to Prairie Lake Boulevard will be from the south side only from Union Centre Boulevard. Access to Beckett Ridge Boulevard will be from the Smith Road side only.
• Phase two closes Beckett Road between Beckett Ridge Boulevard and Smith Road. Access to Beckett Ridge Boulevard and points south will be from the Union Centre Boulevard side only.
• Phase three closes Beckett Road between Prairie Lake Boulevard and Union Centre Boulevard. Access to Prairie Lake Boulevard and points north will be from the Smith Road side only.
