HAMILTON— November may just be starting but it’s already beginning to look a lot like Christmas as far as the city’s plans are concerned.

Hamilton’s tree-lighting ceremony is slated for Friday, Nov. 20, on the Front Street side of the historic Butler County Courthouse.

Entertainment starts at 5:30 p.m. that day, and Mayor Don Ryan will turn on the holiday lights at 6 p.m. This year’s tree has been donated by Chuck and Barb Gaynor of Pleasant Avenue, according to Robert Harris, the administrator of the city’s Parks and Recreation Division.

Fascinatin’ Rhythm, an all-girl show choir, sings “As Long as There is Christmas” at 5:35 p.m. Following them is the Hamilton High School marching band, playing “Christmas Greetings,” and then the Hamilton Elementary Honor Chorus performs at 5:55 p.m. The entertainment wraps up with a carol sing.

Following that will be free carriage rides from 6 to 9 p.m. All Wealth Credit will provide free hot chocolate, and U.S. Bank will provide free cookies,

Other holiday events on the calendar include “City of Hamilton Night” at the Cincinnati Zoo’s Festival of Lights, which will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5. Tickets, are $9 for ages 13 and up and $6 for ages 2 to 12. Tickets can be purchased at the parks and recreation office at 345 High St.

The city has also scheduled its Breakfast with Santa Claus, which will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the M.J. Colligan Lodge on 20 London Road. That event includes holiday entertainment, a visit with Santa, a 4 by 6 photo of a child with Santa and a special holiday craft project.

Tickets for the breakfast are $14 per person, and there is a limit of 77 people to this event. To make reservations, call (513) 785-7060.

Hey "hamilton hater" what do YOU offer the city? Yeah, thought so.

I have to agree with "m" - with the way things are it's great to see the city still having events such as this. Big thanks to all the volunteers and everyone who gives their time and money towards things like this. There'll always be the grumps in the crowd, but please know there's a great many people who appreciate all the hard work and effort that goes into all of these events. Bravo!

I am so grateful that even when the economy is as bad as it is, the city still has some things to offer - especially for the younger ones in our community. We went to the tree lighting last year and had a wonderful time and plan to attend this year also. Thank you Hamilton!
