HAMILTON — Bob Jacoby has been hired as varsity football coach at Hamilton High School.

Jacoby, 53, was unanimously approved Tuesday night, March 9, at the Hamilton City School District Board of Education meeting.

He replaces Jim Place, who resigned Jan. 4, following four years as coach.

“Welcome aboard, Mr. Jacoby. We look forward to a great career for you here,” school board President George Jonson said.

“I just want to say ‘Go Big Blue,’ ” Jacoby said. “I want to thank everyone for your confidence in me, and I look forward to getting started and becoming a member of the community here in Hamilton.”

Jacoby coached Columbus St. Francis DeSales for 18 seasons before leaving in 2007 to go to Hamilton Twp. in the Columbus area, where he also is dean of students.

At DeSales, Jacoby went 169-68 and led the Stallions to six state championship games, winning back-to-back titles in 1997 and 1998 while finishing runner-up in 1990, 1996, 2001 and 2005.

“We’ve got an outstanding person coming in,” HHS Athletic Director Mike Dellapina said. “I don’t think I’ve ever been in a situation where I’ve had a person come so highly recommended.”

Bob Jacoby is a great person and a great football coach. He cares about people. He wants to help each kid become a better person and player. You will be hard pressed to find a good coach with a bigger heart. The players have to "buy-in" to a system, trust the coach and trust their teammates.

Hamilton, you have a good man. Give him support and you will have successful players and teams!

i was a former player of coach jacobys hes a good coach i was the quarterback on the 0-10 team and he couldnt do anything about the massacre of a football season we had we had players quit because they wernt dedicated we had 2 seniors that started last year 2! most of our team that started had little to no experience theres a mantality in hamilton that u dont have to work hard to be good and until we face that we'll never be good so as for coach hes a really good coach with the right players.

i played for Bob Jacoby at Columbus DeSales and let me tell you, your kids are going to be worked like they've never been worked before. But it will be worth it when it's all said and done. He's a great guy and a great coach. Let him coach and don't question his methods. He will win if the team wants to.
