HAMILTON — City Council is giving Artspace Projects Inc. a letter of intent Wednesday, Sept. 29, assuring either the future sale or an easement of the 13-foot strip of land on the building’s west side.
The possibility of this conveyance — legal transfer of title — or easement is contingent on Artspace receiving funding.
The Artspace project is located at 222-226 High St. and will contain around 7,000 square feet of art display space and affordable residential and work space.
The land on side of the High Street building would create a pedestrian alley connecting to a 36-foot rear section, according to a letter to City Manager Joshua Smith from Greg Handberg, vice president of properties.
“A strong component of urban living attraction is a combination of public and semi-public space that allows for outdoor activities in relationship to urban living,” the letter reads.
The letter also cites the need to preserve the west side of the complex for future natural light and ventilation work.
According to a City Council staff report, “ArtSpace USA will incur the costs associated with the conveyance of this property and will incorporate the costs into the overall project.”
This letter of intent from Council is being used to boost Artspace’s application to the Ohio Housing Finance Agency for Low Income Housing Tax Credits, according to the staff report.
