Apartment fire called 'suspicious'

Hot Topics

Staff Report 5:17 PM Saturday, October 31, 2009

HAMILTON—The Hamilton fire department is investigating an overnight fire believed to be suspicious.

At 1:24 a.m. today, Oct. 31, the firefighters responded to a structure fire at 967 Main St. The building was a vacant apartment building which is attached to two other buildings and a restaurant, according to a release from the department.

The fire was quickly brought under control and the fire did not spread to the attached properties. There were no injuries. The damage estimate is $5,000. The fire is considered suspicious and Fire Investigator Tom Angst was called to the scene to investigate.

Ok Nobrainer, I'll bite; why do you think they are they being called suspicious? If you knew anything about a fire investigation in a vacant building there are usually no utilities which can cause a fire. That building is next to the chinese restaurant and they have had problems with people climbing the restaurant roof and gaining entry into the building that had the fire. Those entries along with it being vacant are probably good reasons to take the stance that they have had.

Does anyone else find it funny that all these fires lately are considered suspicious? It doesn't take a an advanced thinker to know why they are suspicious. Especially if they are vacant or have multiple violations like the one in Lebanon.
