Girl Scouts to honor Cincinnati Islamic Center leader

A local woman is among those who will be honored by Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, which serves the Cincinnati region.

Shakila Ahmad, president of the board of the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati, will be honored as part of Girl Scouting’s Women of Distinction program.

Ahmad will be the program’s Community Responsibility honoree, according to organizers.

The Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati is located in West Chester Twp.

The Women of Distinction program honors exceptional women who have made significant contributions in key areas and are transforming leadership roles.

“Women of Distinction highlights the advancements of awe-inspiring women and celebrates women in the workplace, who serve as role models and empower the girls we serve in Cincinnati,” said Roni Luckenbill, CEO for Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. This year’s honorees join more than 125 accomplished women who inspire girls to find their voices through the Girl Scouts.”

Other local 2017 honorees include:

  • Victoria Morgan, Cincinnati Ballet Academy (Healthy Living honoree)
  • Cheryl Rose, Hawthorn PNC Family Wealth (Financial Empowerment honoree)
  • Linda Clement Holmes, Proctor & Gamble (S.T.E.M. honoree)
  • Kathy McMullen, Macy's (Leadership honoree)

Women are nominated by a volunteer committee and represent a cross section of the Cincinnati community.
