Future of Hamilton’s riverfront development starts tonight

Those wanting to offer their input about how Hamilton should develop along its shorelines of the Great Miami River will have the opportunity tonight to do so.

The meeting, organized to develop visions of what people would like to see become of the city’s riverfront — essentially along most if not all along the city’s river, or at least between the dam upriver of downtown to the dam downriver of the downtown — will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton City Council chambers, on the ground floor of 345 High St.

Because the gathering will be an open house format, people will not have to attend the entire meeting to make their suggestions, said Liz Hayden, the city’s director of planning.

Hamilton City Council in December is expected to create a six-month development moratorium along the river while a riverfront development plan is formulated.

One exception that may be made during the moratorium is work on the proposed Spooky Nook Sports at Champion Mill mega-sports complex, where officials hope construction will begin next year.

W Architecture and Landscape Architecture of Brooklyn, N.Y., whose founding principal is Hamiltonian Barbara Wilks, is the consultant for the project, and is being paid $39,000 for the work.
