Hundreds of customer service jobs and other positions such as supervisors are up for grabs in Hamilton, now that one of two call centers in the city has opened and the second is due to open in January.

Downtown Hamilton call center company StarTek Inc. is continuing to hire for a new business customer, site manager Scott Farmer told Journal-News.

About 59 people already started a training class earlier this month to provide services to the client, Farmer said. Now, StarTek still has about 100 more jobs to fill by Dec. 7 for the same business customer, he said.

“These new customer service representatives will provide customer care on behalf of a leading broadband communications company,” he said.

Job seekers can apply in-person at the call center, located in the former Elder-Beerman building at 150 High St., or online at www.startek.com/careers. Candidates must be at least 18-years-old and have a high school diploma. Applicants will also be asked to complete a skills assessment test, background check and drug screening as part of the hiring process, he said.

The full-time customer service jobs offer base pay starting at $10.25 an hour plus an opportunity to earn incentives up to additional $24,000 annually, Farmer said. Employees will also train and work 40 hours a week sometime between 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, he said.

Colorado-based StarTek, which provides business process outsourcing services, first opened in July the Hamilton call center in formerly vacant space. StarTek is expected to create nearly 700 jobs once it ramps up to full operations.

Current employment levels at the Hamilton facility have reached about 200 workers, Farmer said.

Meanwhile, Barclaycard US is also hiring for a second call center opening in January in Hamilton at Vora Technology Park.

Barclaycard is a payments business and a division of United Kingdom-based Barclays Bank. On Aug. 17, it was announced the company selected Vora Technology Park to open the call center, promising to create about 1,500 new jobs in coming years and to invest more than $9 million in the project. Plans are to add up to 250 new employees next year at Vora Technology with operations beginning in January.

Construction is underway on building renovations for Barclaycard to move in and job seekers continue to interview at the site, said property owner Mahenda Vora during an October interview.

“The project is going well,” Vora said. “Not only do we have the best possible infrastructure… when you get infrastructure and talent together, you can continue to grow.”

He said when the call center opens it will create a need for nearby retail such as restaurants and services to cater to workers. “This is a milestone that can help build more,” Vora said.
