A young political newcomer and three incumbents were elected to Trenton City Council by voters Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Ryan Montgomery, 27, a Trenton resident who attended every council meeting since January, won his bid to gain a seat on council by placing fourth with 1,018 votes or 18.65 percent, according to the unofficial, final election results in Butler County during Tuesday’s general election.

He ran for city council in 2007 as a write-in candidate.

Montgomery will join top vote-getter Jenni Combs with 1,334 votes or 24.44 percent. She was followed by Calvin Woodrey with 1,282 votes or 23.49 percent, and Raymond Nichols with 1,036 votes or 18.98, all of whom won re-election to four-year terms.

Councilwoman Sandra McDonell, whose term expires at the end of this year, decided not to seek re-election.

Montgomery edged out Kyle Peavley another political newcomer who also was vying for a seat on council. He was the only non-incumbent candidate to have filed for one of four seats on council.

Peavley, 18, who graduated from Edgewood High School this year and campaigned to bring change to Trenton City Council, came in fifth with 788 votes or 14.44 percent.

Combs said she was happy with the results.

“I’m excited to give Trenton another four years, and I’m thrilled to have won,” she said.

“I’m excited about the next four years and I think there’s a lot of good things to come in Trenton and hopefully we’ll get through this economic crisis and move forward.”
