FAIRFIELD TWP. — Fairfield Twp. Board of Trustees will remain the same for the next two years.
Steve Morgan and Mark Sutton were re-elected Tuesday night, Nov. 3, fending off five challengers. According to final, unofficial results from the Butler County Board of Elections, Sutton received 23.51 percent of the vote (2,492 votes) and Morgan received 22.92 percent (2,429).
“It just goes to show what hard work will do,” Sutton said. “We tried to touch every door in the township and talk to people.”
Morgan said the election was tough, with seven people running for two spots.
“We work hard to keep the township the best we possibly can,” Morgan said. “Look at the stuff people have printed that wasn’t true, and we still won.”
Hartkemeyer made the race close, receiving 18.98 percent of the vote (2,012 votes), according to unofficial, final results. She was unavailable for comment late Tuesday night.
McAbee received 14.07 percent (1,491); Potter received 11.42 percent (1,210); Furniss received 5.61 percent (595); and Dartnall received 3.49 percent (370).
The re-elected trustees said the Bypass Ohio 4 widening, for which construction is slated to start in 2010, is a top priority for the township.
The “Super Street” intersection at Bypass Ohio 4 and Hamilton-Mason Road and a replacement for the Tylersville Road fire station are also priorities.
“We need to get ground broken and get started on the construction for the new fire house,” Sutton said. “To me, that’s a very important item we need to take care of.”
Morgan said that despite some things that were said during the campaign, the fire house project has not been delayed. Money will determine which projects will happen next year and beyond, he said.
“We’re going to start getting more curbing and blacktopping done next year,” Morgan said.
He also said the board would also like to improve more parks.
“This is a really good board and we all want the same thing — what’s best for the township,” Morgan said.
