Sunday liquor sales on most ballots

It’s likely residents will see at least one ballot issue for their area in November regarding liquor sales on Sundays.

Walmart wants to sell beer and wine on Sundays from 10 a.m. to midnight at five Butler County locations through separate initiatives. The locations include 1505 Main St., Hamilton; 3201 Princeton Road, Fairfield Twp.; 8288 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, West Chester Twp.; and 2900 Towne Blvd., Middletown.

While most Walmart locations do sell beer and wine, Lindsay Huddleston, spokesman for the company, said customer demand determines what the stores sell and on which days.

“We take the customer feedback and once we receive word that there is a desire (for the additional sale day), we just take the necessary step to get it done,” he said.

State law requires that companies must have an individual permit for each store to sell liquor.

Jungle Jim’s, which has an extensive wine department, is also requesting to sell alcohol on Sundays; however, only Fairfield voters will be able to decide on the issue, according to the Butler County Board of Elections. The store is located at 5440 Dixie Hwy., in Fairfield.

Indian Creek Tavern at 6206 Main St., Oxford, is also requesting to sell spirits, beer and mixed drinks from 10 a.m. to midnight Sundays.

Your behavior is controlled by the hundreds of laws created for that very purpose. Read the Oxford Press. Drinking related accidents appear often. Encouraging and enabling it on Sunday is placing citizen's health and well being at risk. This view is not based on religion but common sense and statistics. If the need to imbibe is so great it can not wait one more day perhaps there is a problem. Does anyone want that problem driving down their street and past the yards in which children play.

unbelievable that instead of passing bills for better heath care and more jobs.that it has come to passing bills of selling alcohol earlier.thank god i don't live in that town anymore.i was an alcoholic for several years.now i have been sober for a year and a half.they need to not sell on Sundays not due to religious beliefs.but that way we can have one day where it is safe for our kids to go play and not be worried about them getting hit by a drunk driver.or an adult getting hit by one.

This is a perfect example of someones personal freedoms being limited by the Government. These "Freedom loving" Teabaggers are the same religious zealots who cry about the Government wanting to take away their freedoms. But the real issue is they want to decide what freedoms you should have and what freedoms you shouldn't have based upon what their invisible friend for grown ups says. (GOD)
