HAMILTON — Pat Moeller received the most votes among four mayoral candidates Tuesday, Nov. 3, and will assume the duties of the city’s highest elected office in January.

Of the 11,260 votes cast in the mayor’s race, Moeller received 4,742 votes, or 42 percent, according to final, unofficial results from the Butler County Board of Elections. Carla Fiehrer came in second with 3,032 votes, or 27 percent; Gary Gabbard received the third most votes with 1,822, or 16 percent; Archie Johnson received 1,664, or 15 percent, according to the board of elections.

Moeller, a 51-year-old civil attorney with an office on Front Street, said he is ready to “hit the ground running.”

“I’m looking forward to having office hours ... to working with this new council — new people with new ideas. I’m willing to start brainstorming tomorrow,” said Moeller, who watched election results come in with his supporters at the Potter’s Golf Course clubhouse.

“I do believe our citizens want good basic services,” Moeller said. “I know this council is going to support that, but seven people can’t do this alone. It’s going to take all of our citizens helping us.”

Moeller said there are tough budget decisions to be made next year and he intends to closely scrutinize city expenses, starting with City Council’s budget. He said negative attitudes and perceptions will improve with better communication.

“I think it’s important to start communicating better,” he said. “City Council has to communicate better with administrators and citizens. We need to work on customer service ... Administrators should have more face-to-face contact with businesses.”

Moeller, who has served on council since 2004 and is currently serving as vice mayor, will make $15,945 a year as the mayor, plus $300 annually as provided to council members by the city charter.

Moeller ready to ‘hit the ground running’

A high-ranking member of the Butler Co. Democratic Party said that this county will always be Republican the way Cuyahogo County will always be Democratic. It seems that the Democratic PACs and clubs have proven the local Democratic Party wrong by doing what the party hasn't done, and won't do for candidates. More change is needed. This county doesn't need two Republican Parties.

I hope he does a good job. History is always the equalizer to present skepticism. We'll see...

From the sounds of some of the postings it looks like a bunch of city admin type trying to stir up a bunch of dissension between certan groups and the public or even other employees in an effort to try and save their own misurable jobs. Give it a rest at least for a day and let the newly elected council members reflect a little before being inundated with all your bs. Congrats and good luck to the new council.

First off, I wish to thank Don Ryan for his 8 years of service to this city. He took far more abuse than he deserved and I'm not sure why anyone would want the job - $3,000 a year? That being said, congratulations, Pat, on your election. You seem like a very nice gentleman but I think you're going to have to man up and tackle the many problems we have here. It looks like you have a good council to work with - and the work has to start NOW!
