5 disturbing finds at Carlisle crematory where state says bodies not refrigerated

A state inspection of Premium Mortuary Services, a crematory in Carlisle, found several violations, including immoral or unprofessional conduct, according to documents obtained by this news outlet.

Here are five of the more disturbing things noted in an inspector’s report, which led the state to temporarily suspended the crematory’s license:

  • Seven deceased bodies that had not yet been embalmed were stored in non-working refrigerators. The walk-in and three-person coolers were not working properly.
  • There were dead flies on the floor and lives ones flying in the room.
  • One body had mold on its face and neck and the face of another body was beginning to mummify.

  • Another body had "severe decomposition" and multiple maggots living in it.
  • There was an odor of decomposition around the facility. The investigator noted two car fresheners were hanging from the ceiling.
