HAMILTON — Police said Tuesday they have arrested a man believed to have fatally shot a 58-year-old man last fall.

Hamilton SWAT and police detectives located Stephan Barnette, 20, in the 400 block of East Avenue. Police surrounded the house and Barnette was taken into custody without incident.

Barnette is accused of killing Rickey L. Butler, who was found shot multiple times on Oct. 6, 2011, in his bedroom in the 700 block of Fairview Avenue, police said. Butler was transported to the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he was pronounced dead.

Sally Mills, Butler’s sister, said she was “impressed and pleased” with the detective work of Hamilton police.

“These are pretty quick results, I thought,” Mills said. “It’s such a bittersweet feeling. Who knows why this happened. I don’t know if we’ll ever know.”
