HAMILTON — A suspected drunken driver struck a Butler County sheriff’s cruiser while it was stopped at the intersection of Main Street and Washington Boulevard at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 10.

Hamilton police said a gray Ford Taurus, driven by Cameron Donges, 19, of the 500 block of Glenway Drive in Hamilton, struck the rear of the deputy’s cruiser as he was waiting to turn left at the intersection, according to Sgt. Craig Bucheit. Both vehicles were traveling west on Main Street.

After Hamilton police conducted field sobriety tests and cuffed Donges, the local man was charged with OVI. He is expected to be in court this morning, Bucheit said.

The deputy, Timothy Andrews, was alert and talking to officers before being transported by ambulance to an area hospital with back and neck injuries.

The Journal’s media partner Local12, is reporting this morning the deputy has since been released from the hospital.

The impact caused heavy damage to the rear passenger side of the cruiser, and debris was littering the intersection.
