COLUMBUS — The license of West Chester Twp. attorney John R. Andrews has been suspended indefinitely as a result of lawyer misconduct and previous criminal convictions, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled Wednesday, March 17.
Andrews, who has been practicing law in Ohio since 1980, was suspended on an interim basis on Aug. 3, 2006, according to the High Court’s opinion.
Andrews was indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury in 2006 on accusations that he had online conversations with and solicited sex from who he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. The “girl” was a law enforcement officer.
In April 2006, Andrews entered a no-contest plea on charges of attempted tampering with evidence, a fourth-degree felony, and attempted importuning, a first-degree misdemeanor. He was later sentenced to three years of probation, 500 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine, according to court documents. He was also ordered to register as a sexually oriented offender. The convictions and sentence were affirmed later in an appeal.
Four years before his criminal conviction, Andrews was accused of lawyer misconduct in representing the Board of Trustees of an area church — whose name was not provided in court documents — in a civil matter.
The Court said Andrews neglected the civil case and failed to notify his clients of the case’s status. As a result of his inaction, the church board lost their case and was forced to pay more than $9,000, according to documents.
