HAMILTON — A 20-year-old Hamilton man could spend the rest of his life in prison if a jury finds him guilty of shooting another man multiple times last fall.
A Butler County grand jury indicted Stephan Barnette on one count of murder with a gun specification on Tuesday, according to prosecutor Mike Gmoser.
Barnette allegedly shot Rickey L. Butler, 58, several times and then fled the scene in the 700 block of Fairview Avenue on Oct. 6. The Hamilton SWAT team and detectives tracked Barnette down and arrested him in the 400 block of East Avenue on Jan. 31.
Gmoser said if he’s found guilty, Barnette faces 18 years to life in prison. The prosecutor praised the police for their diligence.
“HPD did a tremendous job investigating this case. They did a terrific job with details and interviews,” he said. “What I like about the Hamilton Police Department is they don’t just assume that somebody did something and try to build a case around that presumption.”
