A trial date has been set for a Hamilton man accused in a fatal shooting in March.
Marquis Hunter, 30, of Short Street, is charged with murder and having weapons under disability. Police say Hunter is responsible for shooting Jaylen Kinney to death on March 23. Kinney, of Trotwood, was shot on his 24th birthday at the end of Chestnut Street and west Front Street.
Hunter was taken into custody in Atlanta a few weeks after the shooting.
Butler County Common Pleas Judge Keith Spaeth set Sept. 12 for Hunter’s trial date. He is housed in the Butler County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bond.
Several people called 911 the night of a fatal shooting, including residents who said a large crowd had gathered just before shots rang out and a white Toyota sped away from the scene.
One caller reported hearing four shots and seeing several men loitering in the cul-de-sac.
“Somebody got shot, they are putting him in a car,” the woman screamed while on the 911 call.
Hamilton firefighters also called dispatchers to report shots fired in the area just after 11 p.m. The city’s fire headquarters is located about 1,000 feet from the scene of the shooting.View full experience
