Police ID man taken into custody by SWAT team in Monroe

UPDATE @ 12:20 p.m.:

Police have identified Wayne Rothwell, 45, as the person taken into custody early this morning by the Butler County SWAT team.

Rothwell, 45, is charged with discharging a firearm in city limits, inducing panic and using weapons while intoxicated.

He is housed in the Butler County Jail.

ORIGINAL REPORT:

A shots fired incident early this morning in Monroe ended with one person taken into custody by the Butler County SWAT team.

At about 12:25 a.m., Monroe dispatchers received a call about shots fired in the area of Britton Lane and Brittony Woods. When officers arrived, they heard shots and determined they were coming from the 800 block of Britton Lane.

The Butler County SWAT team was called to assist Monroe police and a perimeter was set up around the residence. Contact was made with the suspect, who was taken into custody about 3:15 a.m.

Monroe police could not provide an additional information about the incident or the suspect.
