Middletown teen driver says he was shot in the back; police find gun

Middletown police are searching for people who allegedly shot at a vehicle and struck the driver in the back as he was driving on Caprice Drive about 11 p.m. Friday.

The man was transported to Atrium Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

The 18-year-old told police that he was driving a car he borrowed from a friend on Cincinnati-Dayton Road, and he turned onto Caprice. He told police he doesn’t remember a car passing his vehicle or anyone standing next to the road.

After being shot, the man stopped his car and ran to a friend’s home on Yorkshire.

Later, police found a .40 caliber handgun lying in the grass near the shooting and seven casings, according to the report.

The vehicle the man was driving was hit several times, police said. There were bullet holes in the windshield, hood, driver’s door and back glass.
