Two 911 callers seconds after a fatal shooting outside a Middletown bar painted a chaotic scene Tuesday morning to dispatchers.

“Everybody is freaking out in here,” one 911 caller said. “Oh my God. Oh my God.”

At first, the woman said there was “a shootout” in the bar and at least one person was injured. Throughout the call, the sounds of people screaming and yelling can be heard in the background.

The woman told the 911 dispatcher she heard at least five shots.

Later, the woman on the phone heard a patron say at least one person was dead.

“Don’t say that,” she told the person.

Another caller, also a woman, told the dispatcher there was a shooting outside the bar and to “please come.”

Malcolm Franklin, 27, was charged with aggravated murder and three counts of felonious assault for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting at D&J’s Nite Spot, 1200 Elliott Drive, said Lt. Jimmy Cunningham.

Franklin allegedly shot and killed Julian Marquis Johnson, 23, of Middletown, around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, police said. Franklin ran from police but was arrested at Sunset Park. Police found a gun they believe was used in the shooting, they said.

Anyone with information about Tuesday’s shooting is asked to contact detective Jon Rawlins at 513-425-7742
