Man seriously injured in altercation outside Oxford bar

A Chicago man was seriously injured Saturday night in an altercation outside an Oxford bar, according to police.

Oxford police were dispatched about 10:20 p.m. to the Woods Bar, 17 N. Poplar St., on a report of an altercation. They found one of the parties, a male, unresponsive, according to Police Chief John Jones.

The man, who is visiting from Chicago and not a Miami University student, was transported by medical helicopter to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Jones said Sunday the man was in the intensive care unit. His name was not released by police on Sunday.

The man and another male and female, both also visiting from Chicago, were involved in a disturbance inside the bar and escorted outside by the staff. Then there was an altercation when the group began to attack the bar staff, Jones said.

Detectives are still investigating the incident and reviewing surveillance tape. The man and woman involved in the altercation who were not injured were charged with disorderly conduct. Jones said the three people involved were of legal age to consume alcohol.

Jones said anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to call Detective Matt Blauvelt at 513-524-5240.
