Hamilton man indicted for Cereal Avenue homicide

A Hamilton man has been indicted by a Butler County grand jury for murder in the death of a Cereal Avenue man last month and the robbery of a local market.

Donald Anthony Moss, 30, of Webster Street, was indicted Wednesday for murder and tampering with evidence in the homicide of 41-year-old Joshua L. Combs who was found dead in his residence Oct. 29. Moss was also indicted for robbery in connection with the Riverview Market robbery Oct. 29.

Moss was arrested by Hamilton police last week and arraigned in Hamilton Municipal Court Friday where bond was set at $1 million. He was scheduled to appear in municipal court Thursday morning for a preliminary hearing, but because the indictment has been handed down, that hearing will not happen.

The case has been assigned to Butler County Common Pleas Judge Jennifer McElfresh, but an arraignment date has not yet been set.

In a 911 call released to the Journal-News, a caller described the crime scene where Combs was found.

“The guy right across the street, we haven’t seen him for a few days, and the landlord was over there today too and he hasn’t been around that house, but she (the landlord) noticed that the front seat of his car was full of blood — a lot of blood,” the caller informs the 911 dispatcher. “I said (to the landlord) you have two choices, you can go home and get your keys and come back or call the police.”

The caller, who also lived in the 200 block of Cereal Avenue, said the landlord posted something on Combs’ door and left the premises.

The caller said that Combs’ SUV was parked on the side of the house by Highland Place and that there was “blood in the front seat and the window and blood on the back door of the house.”

The Butler County Coroner’s Office has not released information on what killed Combs, but his death was ruled a homicide.
