Emergency personnel responded to five heroin overdoses Tuesday, according to the Hamilton Fire Department.

Medics were able to save all five individuals, according to fire officials, who said the department has responded to 18 overdoses in the past two weeks.

In May, the Hamilton Journal News reported that local officials who treat heroin addicts believe Butler County needs more inpatient services for heroin users.

According to the newspaper, John Bohley, executive director of Butler County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board, said the resources for fighting heroin use are not adequate.
