Deputies conduct search at teen suspect’s home in West Liberty-Salem HS shooting

UPDATE @ 5:40 p.m.

Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies are now inside the home of the suspected teen shooter at West Liberty-Salem High School.

A search warrant was signed earlier this evening.

According to authorities, the 17-year-old suspect was armed with a shotgun and had planned to do more harm. One student, identified as Logan Cole, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is in critical but stable condition.

The suspect has not been identified but he is in juvenile detention where he is preliminarily charged with felonious assault, the sheriff said.

In addition to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is on scene.

Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputies are awaiting a search warrant to enter a home connected to the suspected shooter from West Liberty-Salem schools.

"We are holding the scene whether a search warrant is going to be obtained for the residence to check for possible evidence inside the house,” according to an official with the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

The house is located in the 3900 block of Sink Hole Road.
