Couple with local ties dies in Texas church shooting

A married couple who once lived in the area have been identified among the victims of a mass shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas on Sunday.

Robert and Shani Corrigan, both 51, moved to Texas and became active at First Baptist church. Robert Corrigan served in the U.S. Air Force for 29 years, according to Renee Haley, veterans services director.

Robert Corrigan was stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base from August 2004 to June 2006 and was a student at the Air Force Institute of Technology and at the 88th Medical Support Squadron, according to the Air Force.

The couple lived in Riverside near the Wright-Patterson.

John Norman, a retired Air Force senior enlisted leader, said he met Robert Corrigan and his wife at a high school graduation party. Norman said he taught one of the couple’s sons in Air Force Junior ROTC in the Mad River school district.

“They’re very nice people,” he said Thursday. “Very quiet (and) reserved as was their son.”

Authorities say Devin Patrick Kelley killed 26 in the attack, including the unborn baby of one of the women slain.
