Downtown campaign kicks off next month

HAMILTON — A campaign to get area residents to "Go Out Downtown" will kick off June 4 when local singer/songwriter Gregory B. Albright performs for the first-ever Take a Break on the Courthouse Lawn Wednesday Music Series.
The concerts, which will take place on all but one Wednesday in June, July and August, is the newest component in the "Go Out Downtown Year 'Round" campaign, announced Wednesday, May 21, in the Gazebo Band Shell on the Courthouse Lawn, where the lunch-time concert series will be held.

"The purpose of the Go Out Downtown campaign is to invite citizens, their families, friends and nearly 3,000 downtown employees to enjoy everything downtown has to offer," said Marilyn Collmer, chair of the Special Improvement District's economic development committee. "We want to encourage citizens to visit, shop and patronize downtown businesses, services and events.
According to Tony Traub, president of the Special Improvement District's board of trustees, the "Go Out Downtown" campaign will include print, radio and billboard advertising to promote both special events and everyday amenities downtown.
After Albright's opening June 4 performance, the series will feature John Belanger on June 11; Sonny Moorman on June 18, Papa Joe Kretschmer on June 25; Eric Loy on July 9; Jerry Gillespie on July 16; Dave Hisch on July 23; Dave Sams on July 30; Mark Cormican on Aug. 6; Jamon Zeiler on Aug. 13; Rick and Hillary Wagner on Aug. 20; and Chris Dunnett on Aug. 27. The concerts run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Other events being promoted by the "Go Out Downtown Year 'Round" campaign include cultural programming at the Miami Hamilton Downtown headquarters in the Robinson-Schwenn Building, the Saturday morning Farmer's Market and the City of Sculpture PhoTour, which offers a $100 cash prize for the best photo of each of the city's 31 downtown sculptures when it concludes on Aug. 29.
