Butler County’s newest roundabout opens 2 months ahead of schedule

A new roundabout has been completed at the intersection of Cincinnati-Dayton and Kyles Station roads, nearly two months ahead of schedule.

The new roundabout in Liberty Twp. opened Monday afternoon. It is the 10th roundabout constructed in Butler County, said Chris Petrocy, Butler County Engineer’s Office spokesman.

BCEO closed the intersection on June 13, however work to relocate water mains as well as a major gas line owned by Texas Gas began in late April.

According to the original timeline, the roundabout was expected to be completed during the week of Nov. 14. The project cost nearly $1 million.

Earlier this year, County Engineer Greg Wilkens said, “this has been one of our more challenging projects because of the (gas) pipeline, which runs directly under the intersection.”

Wilkens said negotiations with Texas Gas took nearly a decade to resolve because of the requirement that the pipeline had to be lowered before any road construction work could be done.

Last week, Liberty Twp. trustees approved funding toward the construction of two roundabouts at Hamilton-Mason and LeSourdsville/West Chester roads and at Millikin and Yankee roads.

According to BCEO, the new roundabouts will cost about $800,000 each and construction is expected to begin in 2018. Funding for the projects will come from the Ohio Public Works Commission and BCEO.
