1. Lakota East students arrested after allegedly making threats
Two Lakota East High School students are facing charges in connection with two separate incidents of threats allegedly made toward students at the Liberty Twp. school.
A 15-year-old Lakota East High School student remains behind bars after allegedly threatening to assassinate fellow students and posting a video of the threat on social media.
The boy was charged with making terroristic threats, a third-degree felony, after an observant parent saw a Shapchat video and brought it to the attention of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, according to Lt. Morgan Dallman.
“It showed him saying he was going to get a hit man and assassinate several kids. Three were named and he made reference to 10 other kids,” Dallman said. “He said he was going hire another kid to do it then put them in a blender.”
Another 15-year-old male student remains in custody at the Juvenile Detention Center after being charged with making terroristic threats on Thursday, Sgt. Melissa Gerhardt, spokeswoman for the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, said.
Lt. Morgan Dallman of the Butler County Sheriff’s office told the Journal-News the Lakota East student was reported by his parents, who drove him to the sheriff’s headquarters in Hamilton after learning of their son’s social media threat.
The social media posting consisted of the boy “holding a knife and said don’t come to school tomorrow,” said Dallman.
The knife was a one foot to 18 inches long, Dallman estimated.
“We are trying to get the word out to these kids that we will take any action we need to stop this (threats),” he said.
2. Middletown police remove boy, 7, because of ‘unsanitary conditions’
Middletown police removed a 7-year-old boy from his residence because of unsanitary conditions, sleeping arrangements, nutrition concerns and a lack of a refrigerator and stove, according to a police report.
Police responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Yankee Road on Monday morning after they received an anonymous complaint there was no refrigerator, hot water or food in the home, the report said.
Police said there was no refrigerator or stove in the kitchen and the boy was found lying on what appeared to be a deflated air mattress.
3. Franklin mom overdoses with daughter, 8, in Middletown hotel room
A Franklin woman allegedly overdosed on heroin at a local hotel while her 8-year-old daughter was in the room, according to police.
Amanda Napier, 33, was charged with drug abuse instruments and child endangering after she allegedly overdosed Wednesday morning in the Red Roof Inn, 3510 Commerce Drive in Middletown, according to the police report.

4. West Chester man charged with child pornography is out of jail
A West Chester Twp. man facing felony charges involving child pornography is free from jail.
Larry Dale Staley, 58, of the 8300 block of Birchstone Court, was indicted Oct. 4 by a Butler County grand jury on 20 charges. He was arrested on the indictment warrant and booked into the Butler County Jail.
On Tuesday, Staley was arraigned by Butler County Common Pleas Judge Charles Pater and released on his own recognizance. Staley indicated he was going to hire his own attorney and is scheduled to be back in court Oct. 24 for a pre-trial hearing.
Staley is charged with 13 counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, a fourth-degree felony, and seven counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, a fifth-degree felony.

5. Police looking for Middletown man who allegedly set fire to cat
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Middletown man who allegedly set a cat on fire last month using lighter fluid.
Kevin L. Sullivan, 32, is charged with animal cruelty, a fifth-degree felony, for an incident that took place on Sept. 19 on Howard Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office.
When Middletown Police arrived on scene, one of the officers had to shoot the cat to put it out of its misery.
