Whirlpool Corp. Named One of Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies

Staff report

Whirlpool Corporation has been recognized as one of Fortune Magazine’s World’s Most Admired Companies in the Home Equipment, Furnishings industry sector. It is the second year in a row the Benton Harbor, Mich.-based company finished first in this sector, Whirlpool officials said in a news release.

Whirlpool — the world’s leading manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances, with annual sales of approximately $19 billion in 2011 — operates a manufacturing plant and warehouse in Greenville, Ohio. Three months ago, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a tax credit to Whirlpool for the creation of $2.2 million in additional payroll at the Greenville plant. The company will create 65 full-time jobs, the Ohio Department of Development said.

Fortune Magazine’s rankings are published each year and reflect the observations and opinions of executives who rate their peers and competitors on nine different aspects. In the magazine’s survey, Whirlpool’s highest scores came in the innovation, people management, social responsibility, quality of management and long-term investment categories.

“It is an honor to be named one of Fortune Magazine’s World’s Most Admired Companies,” said Jeff M. Fettig, chairman and CEO of Whirlpool. “It has always been our goal to provide our customers with trusted brands and products, engage valued employees, and improve the communities in which our customers and our employees live. This recognition reinforces those values that continue to move our company forward in a technology-driven world.”

Whirlpool markets Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid and Jenn-Air, among other brands.
