West Carrollton medical company relocates to Franklin

FRANKLIN — An in-home medical monitoring company is moving its headquarters to Franklin.

VRI’s move from Mongtomery County to Warren County doubles the size of its facilities and makes room for the roughly 200 people it plans to hire over the next five years, said Jennifer McElroy, a VRI spokeswoman. The current occupant of 1400 Commerce Center Drive moves out Dec. 15 and VRI will move in soon after, McElroy said.

McElroy also said VRI hopes to grow from more than 100 to 300 employees. It has outgrown its current space in West Carrollton and will lease a 24,000-square-feet facility on Commerce Center Drive, according to a news release.

In the past three years, the company has grown from 45 to 105 employees, she added. Revenues were undisclosed.

A seven-to eight-year lease was signed Tuesday, Sept. 14, with Moraine Materials, the building’s current occupant, according to McElroy. VRI was located in West Carrollton five or six years ago.

Because Moraine Materials doesn’t occupy the whole space, renovation work can start. The warehouse space needs converted to usable office space with information technology, infrastructure and furniture, the company said.

The city of Franklin site was chosen over other sites considered in Montgomery, Warren and Butler counties because of its proximity to employees, expansion capabilities and quality space, according to the release.

The new headquarters will serve as a customer-monitoring and research and development facility. Medical Alert Systems is a product line, for example.

Moraine Materials occupied a small portion of the building and will look elsewhere for space, hopefully in the city, said Jim Lukas, city manager of Franklin.
