A North Carolina private equity firm has purchased a majority stake in Hometown Urgent Care and moved the company’s headquarters from Dayton to Columbus.

Hometown Urgent Care’s headquarters moved from Dayton to Columbus at the end of May, coinciding with the sale of a majority ownership stake to a North Carolina private equity firm, the company announced Tuesday.

The deal, in the range of $25 million to $75 million, closed May 25 with Ridgemont Equity Partners, said new Chief Executive Officer Tom Watson.

The move won’t affect any of the company’s estimated 100 Dayton-area employees, Watson said.

Hometown was founded in Dayton in 1996. The company says it’s now Ohio’s largest urgent care business, operating 25 locations in three states, not including the new Cincinnati offices.

There are 11 locations throughout the Dayton area.

Total employment is about 300.

The main Dayton offices on Woodman Drive will continue to be a key satellite office for the company’s expansion plans in Greater Cincinnati, Watson said.

Two new locations will open in July in Milford and Florence, Ky.

Watson said Columbus will provide a more centralized location for expansion throughout the state. Urgent care services are in growing demand as an alternative to hospital emergency departments for nonemergency injuries and illnesses, Watson said.

Hometown’s walk-in clinics are open seven days a week with extended business hours.
