Unemployment figures drop for fifth consecutive month

HAMILTON — The unemployment rate for Ohio decreased between July and August, according to Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The decrease was from 10.3 percent, or 614,000 people, in July to 10.1 percent, or 601,000 people ,in August. It is also a decrease from the same month last year when unemployment was 10.7 percent. This is the fifth consecutive month of decreases, according to a press release.

National unemployment is at 9.6 percent.

County and city unemployment rates will be released Tuesday, Sept. 21. Butler County’s unemployment rate in July was 9.9 percent and Warren County’s rate in July was 9.1.

Unemployment figures are an economic indicator released monthly.
