Northrop Grumman to develop counter for roadside bomb

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — The Air Force awarded a $33.3 million contract to Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. to test battlefield sensor systems and develop equipment to combat homemade bombs used by terrorists.

The Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base awarded the contract. Northrop Grumman will do the work in San Diego and is to complete it by May 20, 2014.

The Defense Department’s announcement provided no detail of the project’s goal of developing a capability to counter improvised bombs.
