FAIRBORN — Retailer Morris Furniture Co. Inc. said Thursday, July 8, it will open a 72,000-square-foot home furnishings showroom in suburban Cincinnati.

The store will be located in Springdale, next to the company’s existing Ashley Furniture HomeStore and a Dave & Busters restaurant. Together, the Morris and Ashley stores will cover 150,000 square feet, executives said.

The store will add 35 new jobs to the Fairborn-based company’s payroll.

Plans call for Morris to invest an estimated $3 million in the new showroom, including inventory and remodeling costs, said Robert Klaben, the company’s vice president of marketing.

The showroom, scheduled to open in the fall, will offer furniture, mattresses, home-theater systems and gifts for the home.

While Morris has operated an Ashley store in Springdale since 2004, the new showroom will mark the first time the Morris nameplate has expanded beyond Dayton, officials said.

Company executives have wanted to open a store in Cincinnati for three years, but held off until recently because of the economy, said Larry Klaben, president and chief executive of Morris Furniture. But the economy has stabilized and now is a good time to expand the 62-year-old company, he said.

“This is a really exciting project for us,” he said.

The company operates: Morris Furniture stores in Centerville and Dayton; Midwest Clearance Outlet locations in Fairborn and Dayton; Thomasville in Centerville; and Ashley Furniture HomeStores in Beavercreek, Fairborn and Springfield as well as Cincinnati, Columbus and northern Kentucky locations.
