Middletown steelmaker making $35M pension contribution

AK Steel Corp. will make a $35 million contribution to its pension trust fund, the company said Tuesday, April 20.

The contribution will be made during the second quarter, the company said in an announcement.

“Combined with a $75 million contribution that was made during the first quarter, the $35 million contribution announced today will satisfy the company’s pension funding obligation for 2010,” AK’s statement said. “AK Steel’s pension contributions since 2005 total more than $1.1 billion.”

Based in Butler County’s West Chester Twp, steelmaker AK has an integrated steel mill in Middletown. The company employs about 6,200 total locally and in Mansfield, Coshocton and Zanesville, Ohio and in other states.
