DAYTON — A Cincinnati automation equipment supplier has taken over business territory for Rexel Inc. in Dayton, Hamilton and Greenville, the company said.

Rexel locations in those three cities, including 6196 Poe Ave., will close Friday as the acquiring company, CBT Co., takes over Rexel’s assets in those locations, said in a letter CBT posted on its web site, cbtcompany.com.

James Stahl, president of CBT (formerly Cincinnati Belting and Transmission), said he may hire some of the approximately 45 Rexel workers in the Dayton area.

“I can say there’s a pretty good chance I may hire 15 or 20 of them,” Stahl said Wednesday. He expects to know more about possibly hiring those employees in the next seven to 10 days.

But he added that he considers those employees the “responsibility” of Rexel. He said Rexel decided to relinquish its Dayton-area territory and close those facilities.

Said Stahl: “We took over the territory for Rexel Automation.”

A message was left for a Rexel spokesman.

CBT’s letter said Rexel — an electrical and communication equipment supplier — will process, ship and deliver orders from available inventory through the end of business Friday. New orders received after 9 a.m. Wednesday will be reviewed by management of both companies for “appropriate processing,” the letter said.

“Our collection teams have been working over the past few months to ensure a smooth, seamless transition,” said the letter, which appears over Stahl’s signature.

CBT has a Springboro location, 130 Advanced Drive. The company has inventory there, including power transmission equipment, electrical supplies and belting products.

“It’s expanding our Dayton-area presence,” Stahl said of CBT’s move.

CBT has 20 employees in Springboro and 128 employees total, he said.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for CBT,” Stahl said.
