AK Steel vice president to retire

AK Steel Corp. announced Wednesday that Lawrence Zizzo, vice president of human resources, has elected to retire after 35 years in the steel industry.

Zizzo, 64, has spent nine years with AK Steel, joining the company in 2004 in his current position. He retires effective March 31.

Prior to AK Steel, Zizzo began his steel business career with National Steel Corp. in 1978, going on to serve in several division and executive level positions, according to Butler County steelmaker AK Steel. Zizzo was also National Steel’s vice president of human resources.

He currently serves on the board of trustees of Abilities First in Middletown, the company said.

Other leadership changes at the steelmaker include the resignation of Chief Accounting Officer Richard Williams. It was announced in January that Williams would leave to take a position at another organization. Then Gregory Hoffbauer was elected controller and chief accounting officer of AK Steel effective Feb. 8.

AK Steel is headquartered in West Chester Twp. and operates several steel plants including Middletown Works.
