AK reassigns five execs

AK Steel on Friday announced a shakeup of top management, giving new duties to five executives.

Executives appointed to positions with new responsibilities are:

• Albert Ferrara, Jr., 63, named senior vice president, corporate strategy and investor relations. Ferrara was previously the company’s senior vice president, finance and chief financial officer.

• Roger Newport, 47, named vice president, finance and chief financial officer. Newport was previously vice president, business planning and development.

• Keith Howell, 46, named vice president, operations. He was previously vice president, carbon steel operations.

• Kirk Reich, 44, named vice president, procurement and supply chain management. He was previously vice president, specialty steel operations.

Also, the Middletown steelmaker said that Maurice Reed, 49, has been named to a newly-created position of vice president, engineering, raw materials and energy.

“I believe that AK Steel has one of the finest executive management teams in the steel industry,” James Wainscott, AK’s chairman, president and chief executive, said in a statement. “The appointments announced (Friday) will further strengthen the company’s top leadership team and position AK Steel for the future as we focus on long-term strategic and succession planning.”

West Chester Twp.-based AK employs about 6,200 people total in Middletown and other cities.
