Bagger Dave’s Burger Tavern to open 1st Cincy location in West Chester

A premium burger restaurant chain new to Ohio hopes to break into the Cincinnati market with a West Chester Twp. location planned to open early next year, according to the Michigan-based owner Diversified Restaurant Holdings Inc.

The eatery, Bagger Dave’s Burger Tavern, is a full-service, family-friendly restaurant and full bar, according to the company.

Diversified Restaurant Holdings will build the first Cincinnati-area Bagger Dave’s and will be attached to the AMC Theatres located just off Union Centre Boulevard and Interstate 75 at The Streets of West Chester development, according to Michael Ansley, president and chief executive officer of the company. Early construction work has already started at the site for the approximately 4,600-square-foot restaurant plus extra room for outdoor patio seating, Ansley said.

It will be only the second Bagger Dave’s to open in Ohio. The first Buckeye State location is preparing to open in November at the Cornerstone of Centerville development at Wilmington Pike and Interstate 675 in the Dayton-area, Ansley said.

Currently, Bagger Dave’s operates in Michigan and Indiana.

What drew Bagger Dave's to the Cincinnati-Dayton region — and West Chester Twp. in particular — was the corridor's growing population, median income and other new business openings at Streets of West Chester, Ansley said. Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World and driving range and entertainment venue Top Golf are slated to open in the same corridor and were cited by Ansley for reasons his company selected Butler County.

“We are not ‘fast casual,’ but a ‘full service’ restaurant with a full bar and much broader menu than Five Guys or Smashburger,” Ansley said in an email.

There is no walk-in freezer or microwave to be found in Bagger Dave’s kitchen, he said.

“We feature our own proprietary fresh beef blend, a unique turkey burger that accounts for 15 percent of burger sales, we hand-cut our fries using a unique boutique potato sourced from the east coast,” he said.

Other featured menu items include cut in-house sweet potato chips, house recipe sauces, and the chain’s own cane sugar soda mix. Also of note is a full-service bar featuring local craft beers on draft and unique cocktails, Ansley said.

Once opened, West Chester Twp. will mark Bagger Dave's 27th company-owned location, he added. The typical restaurant employs about 55 people, he said. More Bagger Dave's restaurants are in the works in Southwest Ohio, including potential sites in the Beavercreek, Springboro/Miami Twp. and Anderson Twp. areas, Ansley previously told this news outlet.

Publicly-traded Diversified Restaurant Holdings is also a Buffalo Wild Wings franchisee that owns locations outside of Ohio.

Meanwhile, another first-to-the-Cincinnati market restaurant to open in West Chester Twp. is Johnny's Italian Steakhouse at Centre Park of West Chester, a hotel and banquet center.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries as well as gourmet burger joint Flip Side are poised to join the Liberty Center lineup in nearby Liberty Twp. Liberty Center is the approximately $350 million retail and office development opening this month on Liberty Way.
