Area bedding manufacturer eyeing move, expansion to Monroe

A Cincinnati area bedding manufacturer is considering a relocation of its business closer to Interstate 75, according to information provided Monday by state and local officials.

A manufacturing affiliate of Serta Simmons Bedding LLC could move its Forest Park manufacturing site to Monroe.

While jobs will be retained with the move, the company would also expand in Monroe and add as many as 106 new full-time jobs. That’s if the company goes through with the move and executes a tax credit agreement approved Monday by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.

Serta's plans represent the second major manufacturing project to commit to Monroe in the past year, said Jennifer Patterson, assistant to the city manager. Illinois-based UGN Inc. is building a 232,000-square-foot auto parts plant in Monroe that will add approximately 150 jobs when it opens for full production this year.

“The city continues to see strong interest in industrial properties throughout Monroe,” Patterson said in a written statement. “Together with our regional partners, we market the city as being proactive in seeking development opportunities with the available land, buildings, and skilled employee pool to support those projects.”
