Area girls bolster WSU softball

The Wright State University softball team has earned its second straight NCAA tournament berth, aided by a pair of local players.
Hamilton High School product Bridget Henry and Madison graduate Jacqueline Macy, both senior infielders, have contributed to a 33-24 campaign by the Raiders.

Henry, who has played in 50 games and started 27, is hitting .241 with five doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs. Macy is only hitting .129 in 29 games, yet two of her four hits this season have been homers.
No. 3 seed WSU captured the Horizon League tournament championship Saturday, May 10, with a 2-0 triumph over top-seeded Cleveland State in Chicago.
Henry started at first base in the title game and went 0-for-2, while Macy was a pinch-hitter and was 0-for-1. Freshman Christina Stoffer (Ross) made her first start of the year for CSU (31-18) and doubled as the designated player.
Stoffer smacked a pinch-hit, two-run triple in the semifinals, helping the Vikings blank Loyola 5-0. She appeared in 10 games this season, going 2-for-6 with three RBIs.
Wright State will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., to begin NCAA regional play against sixth-ranked Michigan (48-6) on Friday, May 16. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Wilpon Softball Complex.
The Raiders are 1-4 in two previous NCAA appearances (2003 and 2007). Notre Dame and Kent State are the other two teams in the regional.
Baseball
Junior first baseman Brian Jett (Badin) has a .243 batting average for Indiana State, which is 14-32, 6-15 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Jett has appeared in 43 games, starting 33. He has four doubles, two triples, three home runs and 19 RBIs.
The Sycamores host Miami today, May 13.
Track & field
Wittenberg junior Ryan Resides (Lakota East) finished third in the javelin throw (163 feet, nine inches) May 1-2 at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
The Tigers placed sixth among 10 teams in the meet, which was hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
