Collecting songs from a spectrum of plays and times, the Lebanon Theatre Company's new musical review "And the World Goes 'Round" encompasses one theme throughout: high energy.

"When you're finished with the show, you'll be worn out," said performer Wayne Dunn. "It's tiring but energizing to do at the same time."

"It's a high-energy show," said performer Tonda Hoefler. "The cast is great to work with, and I think we really thrive with each other's energy."

The show will be performed at the The Lebanon Shoe Factory, 120 E. South St., Lebanon, at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 7; 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday, March 8; 8 p.m. March 13; 8 p.m. March 14; and 2 p.m. March 15

"And The World Goes 'Round" features the songs of John Cander and Fred Ebb, one of the longest running collaborative duos in American musical history. The duo's most famous works include the scores to Broadway hits "Cabaret" and "Chicago" (both of which became Oscar-award-winning movies), as well as a considerable amount of material for siren Liza Minelli. "And the World Goes 'Round" features approximately 25 of the pair's best songs.

"Some of their songs are deadly funny, some are tear jerking," said director Steven Haines. "It's amazing how much can be conveyed in the course of a three and a half minute song."

Dunn describes the show as an "evening of musical one-acts," with each number acting as a small performance, like a live-action music video.

Haines said he was met with an embarrassment of riches when auditioning for the show.

"The show was originally written down for a cast of five," Haines said. "But we had 12 great performers who tried out. My thought was 'We'll make this work.' "

The performers vary on which song is their favorite. Dunn says he likes the opening number "Yes."

"The song is just about embracing life," Dunn said. "It's encouraging you to embrace the opportunities life offers to us."

Abbie Campbell said she is a big fan of "Money, Money, Money" in part because of the song's enthusiasm, but also because her children have taken to the song when hearing it on her rehearsal CD.

The LTC had originally planned to produce "Promises, Promises" as its spring musical. Producer Georgia Dunn said the group changed to "And The World Goes 'Round" due to a lack of available actors to fill the sprawling cast required by "Promises, Promises."

"We've got a very tight ensemble," Hoefler said. "When it's just a small group singing, we're great. And when the whole cast is singing together, that's awesome, too."
