Rain preventing city crews from pretreating roads for expected snowfall
Monday, December 15, 2008
MIDDLETOWN — This morning's rainy weather is preventing area road crews from doing any pretreatment of streets, roads, bridges and highways in preparation of a winter snowstorm forecasted for later today, Dec. 15, state and city officials said.
Both Ron Phelps, Middletown road superintendent, and Sharon Smigielski, Ohio Department of Transportation District 8 spokeswoman, said usually road crews would pretreat streets, roads, highways and bridges with a brine solution to prevent freezing.
However, with this morning's rain, crews won't be applying the brine solution because it would only be washed away by the rain.
About 1 to 2 inches of snow is forecasted for late this afternoon.
